What do we do?

Connect Housing - Homes, Communications, Cultures started life in 1977 through the amalgamation of Weston Lane, Skyrac and Yorkshire Housing Societies. We are now a Registered Social Landlord operating on a not-for-profit basis under charitable rules.

We work exclusively within Leeds to provide an extensive range of affordable homes for rent and for sale, together with a range of support services. From our stock of over 2,000 homes, we provide housing that caters for a diversity of housing needs. These include families, elderly people, single people, students and couples. We also provide supported housing projects such as hostels and group homes for people with mental health problems, for young homeless people, and ex-offenders. In addition we provide 'floating support' to many tenants in their own homes. Neighbourhood regeneration is a high priority in a number of these locations and is a matter of great importance to us. Whilst the large majority of our homes are for rent, around 6% are available for sale on a shared equity basis.

A fifth of our stock is in the inner-city areas of Chapeltown and Harehills, where community regeneration is paramount. People from Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) communities make up a substantial proportion of our tenants in these areas, with almost 30% of our lettings in 2003/04 being made to BME applicants.

Since 1989, the Association has been a key member of Leeds Partnership Homes, the largest social housing venture of its type in the country. This has enabled us to rapidly expand our provision of housing across a wide range of locations in Leeds.

Since 2002 we have been a Preferred Partner of Leeds City Council, participating in developing housing strategy for the city as well as delivering solutions to housing needs.

In providing our homes and services we aim to make a lasting contribution to the long-term viability of the areas where we are providing homes and provide excellent value for money for tenants and users of our services.
